Institute for Measurement and Sensor Technology

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Himmel has headed the Institute for Measurement and Sensor Technology at Hochschule Ruhr West – University of Applied Sciences (HRW) since March 2010. This institute fulfils two important tasks for the university of applied sciences: research and teaching.

The institute’s research laboratory is being steadily expanded, providing a a platform for cooperations between industry and HRW in the field of measurement and sensor technology.

The central link between companies and HRW is Applied research and development. The cutting-edge expertise of the Institute for Measurement and Sensor Technology meets the demands of industrial enterprises that require external services to solve complex technological problems, e.g. in the area of advanced development.

For their part, industrial enterprises provide the funding required for these research projects. Over the past few years, the institute has developed important partnerships with regional and national industrial concerns.

The structure of the institute allows medium-sized companies to outsource some of their advanced development work in the area of measurement and sensor technology to HRW. Through private and third-party funding, these collaborations also lead to the advancement of HRW’s research objectives and students’ learning objectives – ensuring maximum synergy and a “win-win” situation for everyone involved.
