Bottrop / Mülheim an der Ruhr, 16 February 2021: From 01 March 2021, Dr. Anne Stockem Novo will teach as an endowed professor of Applied Artificial Intelligence at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences. The endowed chair was initiated and funded by EASY SOFTWARE AG.
Prior to her professorship at HRW, Dr Anne Stockem Novo worked for seven years as a postdoc in the field of computer simulations - including four years in Lisboa at the Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal's most renowned engineering university. Since 2016, the astroplasma physicist with a PhD worked as an algorithm developer for ZF Automotive AG. There, she accompanied a now global project in autonomous driving. Dr Anne Stockem Novo worked in the field of decision making, where her team used machine learning and AI for scene prediction.
"I am excited about the new challenge at HRW, where I am particularly drawn to working and interacting with young people. From the cooperation with companies in the region, I expect a direct application of cutting-edge research. The cooperation between the HRW and EASY SOFTWARE AG offers interested students the opportunity to specialise in this field and carry out small projects or theses," says Dr. Anne Stockem Novo.
What do we mean by 'Applied Artificial Intelligence' in 2021?
"AI is a dynamic field of research and can be applied in many different ways. I see potential in diverse application areas - such as image processing for classification and segmentation, natural language processing for interactive processes, exchanges with customers or the personalisation of processes," says Dr Anne Stockem Novo. The endowed professorship links the fields of computer science and economics in research and teaching - and thus:
„The endowed chair for Applied Artificial Intelligence underlines the competence of Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences to align its academic work with the tasks of companies, to address topics of the future and thus to train for the market in line with its requirements. We offer our students practical training, excellent contacts to market-leading companies, and thus excellent career opportunities. We are very pleased to cooperate with EASY SOFTWARE, as this is a partnership of equals with regional relevance," explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Staude, President of the university.
EASY and HRW signed the contract to sponsor the endowed professorship on 12 September 2019, thus strengthening EASY SOFTWARE's support for young talents and innovative cutting-edge technologies in the Ruhr region. In addition to the initial investment, EASY is calling on other companies in the digital industry to also invest in the potential of Applied Artificial Intelligence at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences as part of a "Circle of Friends". "Ultimately, technological advances and top-class young talent will benefit the entire region and strengthen the digital position of the Ruhr region," Oliver Krautscheid, CEO of EASY SOFTWARE AG, is certain.
