Bottrop / Mülheim an der Ruhr, 6 February 2023: After the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences became the target of a cyber attack last week, the systems were temporarily and completely disconnected from the network. So far, analyses have shown no signs of data loss or data encryption. The internal and external IT experts are working at full speed to restore the systems.
"We owe this good starting situation to the quick reaction of our internal IT experts, who are working extremely hard to get the Hochschule Ruhr West back to normal as quickly as possible. And in doing so, to protect it even better from IT attacks", explained HRW President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Staude.
With this in mind, processes are currently being developed to ensure that this IT crisis does not have a detrimental effect on studies and university operations. For example, new passwords for personal university identification are to be issued as soon as possible.
For this purpose, it will be necessary for all university members (employees as well as students) to come to the campus in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Further information will follow as soon as possible. There will only be an alternative solution for students who are currently on a semester abroad.
