19. January 2022 News

The term of office begins on March 1, 2022.

Bottrop / Mülheim an der Ruhr, 19 January 2022: Election day at the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences: In a partially open meeting, the election assembly voted. Professor Dr. Susanne Winter completes the Executive Board as the new Vice President for Studies and Teaching. Her term of office begins on 1 March 2022.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the University Election Assembly for the trust they have placed in me and I am happy to accept this new, challenging task. I look forward to working with the people at the university," said Professor Winter.

Strengthening presence and digitalisation in studies

Susanne Winter has been Professor of Foundations of Computer Science at HRW since March 2018. Previously, the 52-year-old was head of a scientific research group and lecturer in the Applied Computer Science degree programme at Ruhr University Bochum, as well as a freelance lecturer and consultant for scientific projects and data analysis. After studying human medicine and neuroinformatics, she completed her doctorate in medicine in 2007, specialising in medical informatics.

Winter has initiated, conceived and participated in numerous projects with teams from different disciplines. Integrating the different requirements, perspectives and ways of working into one concept and developing innovative approaches to solutions that do justice to all sides was the challenge that always particularly appealed to her. In addition, Winter brings experience in leading very heterogeneous groups.

"A university lives from the many creative ideas and the power of implementation of many different actors. My goal is to work together in interdisciplinary teams to shape the further development of studies and teaching at the HRW. One particularly exciting challenge will be the development of new teaching formats that effectively combine the advantages of digitalisation from the Corona phase with the benefits of our established face-to-face formats," says Winter, giving an outlook on her term of office.

The Chair of the University Council, Prof. Dr. Margret Bülow-Schramm, warmly congratulates the new Vice President and wishes her every success for her term of office.
