Ruhr West Profile

A REGIONAL UNIVERSITY WITH AN INTERNATIONAL OUTLOOK

Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences is a public university offering high-quality bachelor’s and master’s programmes in computer science, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences and business administration.

All of our innovative programmes have a strong emphasis on practice and real-world application, giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience by working with one of our many local and regional industry partners.

With two brand new, state-of-the-art campuses in the cities of Mülheim an der Ruhr and Bottrop, Ruhr West is located in the heart of the Ruhr area, one of the world’s foremost industrial regions with a population of about 5.3 million.

Anyone who wants to study with ambition, passion and enthusiasm will find the space and comprehensive support to develop and tap their potential at the Hochschule Ruhr West (HRW). That is why the HRW motto is "Never stop growing!"

It is a promise to offer the conditions for this, as well as an invitation to grow beyond oneself. As a university of applied sciences, it makes this offer to all young people - women as well as men and regardless of their social, cultural or ethnic background. The HRW opens up the opportunity for people from non-academic households or with a migration background to play a shaping, valuable and accepted role in our society.

The motto "Never stop growing!" takes into account the founding mission of the young university to advance structural change in the Ruhr region. In times of a shortage of skilled workers, not least with excellently trained graduates who are optimally prepared for the challenges in the economy of the future. With a practice-oriented education and the ability to set priorities in interdisciplinary, intercultural international teams.

The Hochschule Ruhr West has campuses in the cities of Mülheim an der Ruhr (Duisburger Straße 100) and Bottrop (Lützowstraße 5). The focus is on computer science, engineering, mathematics, natural sciences and business administration. Unique and above all practice-oriented study programmes are appealing to more and more students. A modern university in the middle of the Ruhr region - regionally anchored and internationally oriented.

Four faculties, three locations, over 6,500 students in 33 pioneering degree programmes - application-oriented, sustainable and networked. The opportunities are diverse. Students benefit from our research strength and practical relevance in their studies.

In addition to the interdisciplinary professional training, great importance is attached to the service-oriented support of the students. They are taught valuable soft skills and are comprehensively prepared for their career entry: Well-structured and application-oriented study programmes with a practical semester at the end allow for effective study within the standard period of study.

Indispensable service facilities such as student services and the university library are within easy reach. The university library focuses on digital media on the one hand, and easy access to printed works through state-of-the-art technology on the other. The Digital Library NRW provides access to a wide range of digital services such as databases and e-books. In addition, books and journal articles that are not available in the library can be ordered at short notice from other libraries in Germany via the DigiBib.
