At Ruhr West, we know the value of working together. Our network is designed to connect a wide range of partners quickly and efficiently to enable them to collaborate on projects and initiatives before, during and after students’ time at Ruhr West. As a result, the network benefits high school pupils, students and graduates, as well as medium-sized enterprises.
Ruhr West works with a number of partner high schools in the area to get pupils interested in science, technology and engineering early on and help them identify a career that’s right for them.
Ruhr West students are encouraged to go abroad during their studies; likewise, we welcome international students on our campuses in Mülheim and Bottrop. The International Office is in charge of managing the university’s expanding international relations and coordinating all study abroad-related activities and programmes. A growing network of partner universities abroad enables Ruhr Wests students and professors to study or teach abroad in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
The Ruhr West Career Service office serves as a link between the university and the business community to prepare students for the workplace and connect them to future employers early on in their studies, for instance via excursions, work placements and career fairs.
Most of the medium-sized enterprises based in the Ruhr region and beyond find it hard to compete with large companies for new talents. That’s why they invest in the education of their workforce themselves, for instance by hiring Ruhr West students as interns and student workers, or by having them write their bachelor’s thesis with them. For Ruhr West students, this kind of work experience gives them the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom. Moreover, employers and future employees can get to know each other in a real-world workplace setting.
Friends of Ruhr West is a non-profit association that supports the university’s ongoing development and profile building, in collaboration with other supporters from civil society, politics and science. The goal is to make Ruhr West known beyond North-Rhine Westphalia as a university that provides practice-oriented degree programmes that match market needs, as well as a research-intensive science and engineering institution.
