Applied research and development is a key feature at Ruhr West University of applied sciences. Four research concentrations have been developed. These research concentrations address the guiding themes of Ruhr West in the following ways:
Ruhr West guiding themes
|Research concentrations||Energy and resources||Digitisation and networks||Health services and medical care|
|Non-contact or minimally invasive methods||x||x||x|
|Artificial Intelligence from an economic perspective||x|
‘One of my most important goals is to develop, expand and publicise our research concentrations. This is the only way for us to show the world who we are and in which research areas we are strong’, says Vice President Oliver Koch. ‘After all, as much as our degree programmes are products sought out by prospective students, our research concentrations too should be perceived by companies as an invitation to cooperate with us.’
Institutional research priorities at universities of applied sciences
The research map of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) [http://www.forschungslandkarte.de/en/landkarte.html] includes two recognised research priorities at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (with campuses in Bottrop and Mülheim an der Ruhr):
The HRK research map presents outstanding research priorities at German higher education institutions in accessible language and in a standardised format. The HRK research priorities are evaluated on a regular basis. Selection criteria include €1.2 million in external funding per year, number of researchers, scientific publications, patent registrations and cooperative procedures for awarding doctoral degrees.
