Why Ruhr West?

  • Founded in 2009, Ruhr West is an innovative public university offering cutting-edge interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s programmes in science, technology, engineering and business administration.
  • As a university of applied science, Ruhr West has an emphasis on practice-oriented teaching and application-oriented research. Our close ties to a wide range of industry partners help ensure that everything students learn is relevant for the workplace. Moreover, there are plenty of opportunities for students to gain practical experience before they graduate.
  • With its two brand new, state-of-the-art campuses in Mülheim an der Ruhr and Bottrop, Ruhr West is based in the heart of Germany’s Ruhr region, one of the world’s foremost industrial regions with a population of about 5 million.
  • Learning at Ruhr West is characterised by individualised study, small groups, a diverse student body and an open university culture. Our young professors are highly motivated, and students can take an active part in the university’s ongoing development.
  • Ruhr West is designed as a university in the region and for the region, combined with an international outlook. Students benefit from our strong network of local and regional partners as well as our international connections, graduating well prepared for the global workplace

Studying at the HRW means very practical teaching with young lecturers, small groups and above-average intensive support. Most students work and study at the central campus in Mülheim on Duisburger Straße. In October 2014, a new 11,400 square metre building was inaugurated in Bottrop, which houses lecture halls, a refectory and library as well as the Institutes of Computer Science and Energy Systems and Energy Economics. It is proving to be a real innovation campus for the approximately 1,500 students, not only because innovations are being researched here, but also because the entire building is being used as an energy laboratory for research and teaching.
