Energy Informatics

ENERGY AND IT: A UNIQUE COMBINATION

Modern society would be unthinkable without electricity and information technology. Energy informatics is where these two fields come together, creating a wealth of possible applications. Students in this innovative programme explore technical issues such as sustainable energy production or energy buffering in electric vehicle batteries, as well as the IT aspects involved in these technologies.

The undergraduate programme in Energy Informatics at Ruhr West produces much-needed experts for energy companies in Germany and worldwide. In the first two semesters, students acquire the technical basics before focusing on one of the programme’s concentrations, such as the international expansion and maintenance of electrical power transmission networks and the integration of large renewable energy plants, including the required control technology and network security. Other topics include energy supply, energy trade, e-mobility and smart building technology.

Emphasis on practice

The programme has a strong emphasis on practice, and students acquire important soft skills for the workplace, including management skills, technical English skills and presentation skills. Completing this degree is a challenge, but if you are interested in renewable and conventional sources of energy, and if you like to work hard, ask scientific questions, engage in logical thinking and take a systematic approach to solving complex technical issues, this programme and a career in the energy sector may be for you. With a degree in Energy Informatics, you will enjoy excellent career prospects and a high level of job security.
