Getting Startet Early On
Our career service office serves as a link between the university and the business world to prepare Ruhr West students for successful careers in a wide range of industries. Our philosophy is to help students take their career planning into their own hands as early as possible. After all, with clearly defined career goals in mind, completing your academic work is so much more fun!
Career services offer individualised counselling at various stages of career orientation. In addition to one-on-one advising sessions, we offer a range of events to help you land that important first job. Our services focus on the following issues:
- Defining career goals and developing a career profile
- Preparing for the praxis term (a mandatory part of all bachelor’s degrees at Ruhr West)
- Individualised career counselling
- Job application strategies and techniques
- Writing successful cover letters and CVs
- Mock interviews to prepare for actual employment interviews
Career services are available not only to current Ruhr West students but also to alumni who wish to switch careers. In addition, our ‘eCampus’ portal has many more links and tips on identifying a suitable career, applying for internships and finding a first job.
Important note to non-EU international students:
When planning your career, please keep in mind that a degree from Ruhr West does not automatically entitle you to work legally in Germany. After graduation, you have one year to find a position that is appropriate to your qualification. If an appropriate job offer is made, the Federal Employment Agency will carry out a priority check (to ensure that no other persons with priority - i.e. Germans or EU citizens - can take up this job offer). After this, you may be granted a residence permit for the pursuit of gainful employment.
